Convenient Access from Capitol Hill
From the heart of Capitol Hill, the drive takes about 10 minutes, roughly 5 miles south on S. Walker Ave., with no interstate driving at all. Shadid Dental Studio is a father-and-son general practice in south Oklahoma City, open Monday through Thursday. It is a practical choice for anyone wanting a dentist near Capitol Hill who can care for children, parents and grandparents at one address.
Begin at the Capitol Hill Library, 327 SW 27th St, and head west about two blocks to S. Walker Ave. Turn left and stay on Walker for about 4.1 miles; you cross I-240 on the way rather than joining it. At SW 89th St, turn right and go about 0.6 miles west, then turn right at S. Klein Ave. to reach 1001 SW 89th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73139. The SW 25th St historic district is a block north of the start, and Capitol Hill High School is a short way south. Open our Google Maps pin for turn-by-turn help, and readers to the north can see our pages for Bricktown and Stockyards City.
Capitol Hill History and a Practice With Deep South-Side Roots
Capitol Hill is a historic neighborhood in south Oklahoma City. Platted in 1900, it was a separate town until it merged with Oklahoma City in 1911. It is not the State Capitol complex on the north-east side. Instead, it is the district south of the Oklahoma River, roughly between Shields Blvd., Grand Blvd. and S. Western Ave., in Oklahoma County.
Its commercial heart is SW 25th St, once called Commerce Avenue. The Capitol Hill Commercial Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 15, 2019, and the Calle Dos Cinco Main Street program promotes the corridor today. Residential blocks surround it, with College Hill to the south-west, downtown just across the river and the small town of Valley Brook a few miles to the south-east.
Two public anchors stand out. The Capitol Hill Library reopened in a new 17,000-square-foot building on October 5, 2017, on a site where, the library notes, Oklahoma's first airplane flight took place in 1910. Capitol Hill High School opened in 1928 as the first high school in the city south of the North Canadian River.
Our practice shares that long view of the south side. Dr. Paul A. Shadid began practicing at our SW 89th St address in 1984, and the office has been renovated several times since. Several team members have worked here for 20 to 30 years or more.
Dental Priorities for Capitol Hill Families and Elders
Public schools dot Capitol Hill, from the high school down to the neighborhood's elementary schools, so checkups for school-age children are a natural place to start. Children do best with cleanings and exams about twice a year, plus fluoride to strengthen enamel that is still maturing. Digital x-rays help the dentists spot cavities between teeth while they are small. Treating a cavity early keeps a child's visit short and simple.
Older residents often bring different concerns. Teeth lost over the years can make chewing harder and change how the face looks. A partial denture fills a few gaps, a full denture restores a whole arch, and implants can steady either one. Implant-supported bridges are another way to close a gap without a removable appliance.
Gum disease deserves attention at every age, but it becomes more common later in life. Receding or bleeding gums, loose teeth and bad breath are warning signs. Scaling and root planing cleans infected pockets below the gumline, and perio maintenance visits keep the problem from coming back.
Emergencies do not follow a schedule. A broken tooth, a lost filling or sudden swelling should be checked soon, and when you call about one, we strive to fit you into our schedule. New patients without insurance can use the $59 Emergency Exam & X-Ray, which covers a focused exam, any x-rays needed and treatment recommendations, provided there is no periodontal disease. You leave with a clear plan and a cost estimate.
Old crowns and large fillings also wear out. When a tooth needs a new crown, CEREC lets the dentists design it from a digital impression and mill it in the office, so the crown is placed in one appointment. For patients who rely on a family member for a ride, fewer visits make a real difference.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far is Shadid Dental Studio from Capitol Hill, and how do I get there?
We are about 5 miles from the Capitol Hill Library, a drive of roughly 10 minutes. Head west on SW 27th St, then south on S. Walker Ave. all the way to SW 89th St, and turn right to S. Klein Ave. For neighbors who want a dentist near Capitol Hill, the route stays on city streets from start to finish.
What are my options if I'm missing several teeth?
You have three main choices: a partial denture, a dental bridge or implants. A partial clips onto your remaining teeth and comes out for cleaning, while a bridge stays fixed to the neighboring teeth. Implants can support single crowns, a bridge or a full denture. The dentists review x-rays and your budget to compare options.
Is it worth filling a cavity in a baby tooth?
Usually, yes. Baby teeth hold space for the permanent teeth and help children chew and speak, and some back baby teeth stay until about age 10 to 12. An untreated cavity can cause pain or infection and may affect the adult tooth underneath. The dentists look at the tooth's age and x-rays before recommending a filling.
Why do gums recede, and can it be treated?
Gums most often recede because of gum disease, brushing too hard, grinding or genetics. Receding gums expose the root, which can feel sensitive and decay more easily. Treatment depends on the cause: scaling and root planing for infection, a softer brushing technique, or a nightguard for grinding. Advanced cases may need a surgical option.
How long do dentures usually last?
Many dentures last several years, but they rarely stay a perfect fit forever. The jawbone gradually changes shape once teeth are gone, so a denture can loosen, rub or click. Regular checkups let the dentists adjust or reline it. When a denture keeps slipping, implant-supported dentures can hold it firmly in place.
